General guidance when printing a booklet or brochure
Types of booklets and brochures we print
Saddle-stitched booklets
One of the most common types is saddle-stitch binding, where the pages are folded in half and stapled along the fold. This type of binding is ideal for a lower page count, as it provides a clean and professional look.
Perfect bound brochures
Perfect binding involves glueing the pages together and attaching a cover. Perfect bound booklets and brochures are commonly used for higher page count. This is binding type is more durable with a polished finish often seen in magazines and catalogues. Perfect binding is also commonly used for paperback books. If you need to know more, read about our book printing services.
Wire bound brochures
Spiral binding or wire-o binding method involve securing the pages with a metal or plastic coil, which allows the pages to lay flat when opened. Wire-binding is particularly useful for booklets that need to be used as workbooks or study guides and cookbooks.
A few tips for effective booklet and brochure printing
To ensure the success of your project, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Plan ahead
Give yourself enough time to plan, design, and print your booklets. Rushing the process can lead to mistakes and subpar results. Start early and create a timeline to ensure everything is completed on schedule.
Proofread and edit
Before sending your artwork to print, carefully proofread and edit the content. Check for spelling and grammar errors, inconsistencies, or confusing passages. It’s a good idea to have someone else review it as well to catch any mistakes you may have missed.
Use high-resolution images
For professional print results, ensure you use high-resolution images. Low-resolution images can appear pixelated and blurry when printed, which can detract from the overall quality of your piece.
Choose the right papers
The type of paper you choose can greatly impact the look and feel. Consider factors such as thickness, finish, and durability. Matte or glossy finishes can add a touch of elegance, while thicker paper stocks can make your brochure feel more substantial.
Choosing the right paper and binding options
Choosing the right paper and binding options is crucial to achieving the desired outcome. The paper you select can greatly impact the look and feel, while the binding method determines its durability and functionality.
Paper options
We have various paper options available, each with its own unique characteristics. We also try to use certified FSC papers wherever possible. Here are some popular choices:
Coated paper:Â This type of paper has a smooth, glossy finish that enhances the vibrancy and sharpness of images. It’s commonly used for booklets that require high-quality visuals, such as product catalogues or fashion lookbooks.
Uncoated paper:Â Uncoated paper has a more natural and textured feel. It’s often chosen for brochures that require a more tactile and rustic look, such as art portfolios or travel guides. Uncoated paper is also easier to write on, making it suitable for workbooks or interactive materials.
Recycled paper:Â If sustainability is a priority for your brand, consider using recycled paper. Recycled paper is made from post-consumer waste and offers a more environmentally friendly option. It can also give your brochure a unique and rustic appearance.

Frequently asked questions
Faq's
Printing booklets & brochures is not as straight forward as most thinks. It takes a lot of technical knowledge and skill to get it completely right. Learn more about our services below.
Do you print hardcover booklets?
Currently we do not do hardcovers, but it’s something we are looking into for the very near future.
Can you print large quantities?
We generally focus on short runs, however we also can produce long runs in the thousands.
How are my brochures printed?
For most runs of say under a thousand copies, we would normally use high quality digital printing, otherwise these may go on to a litho printing press.
Can you print custom sizes?
We can print almost any size. Send us your full specifications and we’ll advise if it’s feasible or not.
I’ve designed in Microsoft word, would this good enough to print?
It all depends on the final output required, e.g. if it’s a luxury brochure, then most likely not, however if it was study manual or training manual, then it may work.
Do I need to add bleeds the pages?
Yes, usually we require a 3mm bleed all round for the best result in cases where there is white space on all sides of the page, we may be able to work without it.
Can you help with fixing my design?
We can, however it will slow your job down. We can also help in setting up your entire artwork.
I need general technical advice, can you help?
Absolutely, we prefer speaking before hand as to provide guidance on the proper ways in submitting your artwork.
